Five Ways to Save...

On Books

Stephanie Nelson, CouponMom.com

1.  Library books are free. Check out books, novels, cookbooks, how-to books, finance books, children’s books, and more. Peruse magazines and a variety of newspapers at no cost.

2.  Library has more than books. Take advantage of free children’s events like story hours. Also, you can download free audio books from the library’s website and some audiobooks are compatible with Kindle. While you are there you can request books from other branches and have your book preferences transferred to your local branch.

3.  Look for nearly new. Find less expensive alternatives by looking for nearly-new DVDs, CDs and books at thrift stores. Sometimes you can find recent bestsellers for as little as $1.

4.  Barter books. Use online bartering services like Paperback Swap (which also includes CD and DVD swapping) or Bookmooch, to trade with other members for just the cost of postage.

5.  Ask your friends. Get friends together and trade each other’s paperback books at no cost.
